James Lee Potts DEADWOOD - James Lee Potts, 63, of Deadwood, SD, passed away Wednesday, September 27, after a battle with cancer. Memorial service will be Friday, September 29, at 2:30 p.m. at Serenity Springs Funeral Chapel in Rapid City. James was born April 16, 1943, to Bernard and Bernese (Kasper) Potts in Rapid City. He started working at an early age setting pins at the Casino and Gateway Lanes. He worked summers at the Putter Patch Golf Driving Range. At age 16 he went to work for Cable Television and worked there for 11 years. He started working for the Rapid City Fire Department in July 1970 and retired with over 25 years of service. James loved hunting, biking, hiking and generally everything outdoors. Survivors include his wife Priscilla of Deadwood; two daughters, Sharrie Potts of Texas and Stacy Nelson of Rapid City; two granddaughters, Ella Potts of Texas and Faith Nelson of Rapid City; four brothers, LaVerne of Rapid City, Eugene of Colorado, Archie of Georgia, David of Rapid City; one sister, Marge Myers of Rapid City; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one special brother, Don. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of the Black Hills.
